International manufacturer and exporter of high value softwood products located in the Maple Ridge area is looking for a Production Supervisor. If you have a solid background in wood production, supervision, inventory/budget management and safety we would like to speak to you about this newly open high-quality employment opportunity.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Production Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation, performance, quality control, cost management and safety of the production staff; provides leadership, training, and support including a collaborative and positive working rapport between the maintenance and the production team.
Your day to day responsibilities will include:
- Plan, schedule, organize, and direct day-to-day production operations in co-ordination with production and maintenance staff
- Monitor productivity rates and product standards and implement quality control programs as required
- Provide feedback on production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products for continuous improvement, provide input on the efficiency of production and allocation of department staff, reduce cost, and maximize the quality, value, and recovery of lumber produced
- Provide direction, guidance and support to production team; engage staff to achieve targets, meet expectations, and address deficiencies in a productive and professional manner
- Ensure the highest safety standards by leading by example and ensuring that the team follows all policies, procedures, practices and regulations
- Provide detailed and accurate reporting information for safety, production, and performance related matters
To fully qualify for this position you must have:
- A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience supervising production in a sawmill, planer or related wood component manufacturing operation
- High school graduation with post-secondary training/education in Supervisory/Leadership preferred
- Knowledge and experience within lumber/wood component manufacturing and sawmill operations
- Basic knowledge of softwood lumber grades and familiarity with local softwood species characteristics
- A strong combination of technical knowledge, business acumen and leadership, and ability to work closely with operational management, maintenance and production staff to ensure a high level of safety, operational, financial, and quality performance
- Basic office computer skills using MS Office/Outlook

- Working knowledge of component wood products manufacturing production methods, machinery, tools and materials
- A proven ability to prioritize, organize, and meet production deadlines within a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
- A strong team player orientation to achieve production and business objectives by acting in a proactive and cooperative manner working with various levels of production staff
- Self-motivated, detail oriented and possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- An enthusiastic, positive attitude and ability to build rapport and motivate others to be their best
- Commitment to safety and the safety of others including strong knowledge of safety standards and preventative maintenance programs
